Update for Families: November 10, 2023

Updates for Families banner

Dear KPR Families,

Tomorrow, on Remembrance Day, we join Canadians across the country in honouring and reflecting on the service, courage and sacrifice of those who served, and continue to serve, courageously in times of war, conflict, and peace. 聽

In addition to recognizing the service of Canadian soldiers and peacekeepers, we also remember and hold in our hearts all the people, children and families who were, and continue to be, victims of the devastating impacts of war. 聽聽

This week students and staff have engaged in a number of activities of remembrance to honour all those who have supported freedom and peace within our own borders and around the world. On behalf of our KPR community, we extend once again our gratitude as we honour the bravery and sacrifice of our fellow Canadians.

During Veterans鈥 Week, we also recognize Indigenous Veterans Day on Wednesday, November 8 to specifically honour the contributions of thousands of Indigenous people who served during times of war and peacekeeping. The First Nation, M茅tis and Inuit peoples of Canada have a long and decorated tradition of military service, and in detailing the tremendous achievements of these individuals, Veterans Affairs Canada notes that these volunteers 鈥渨ere often forced to overcome many challenges to serve in uniform, from learning a new language and adapting to cultural differences, to having to travel great distances from their remote communities just to enlist.鈥

As Indigenous Peoples Awareness Month in KPR continues, students and staff will continue to explore the stories of First Nation, M茅tis, and Inuit people and engage in the resources and opportunities provided by the Indigenous Education department through the聽听辫谤辞驳谤补尘.

I would like to wish a very happy and joyful Diwali to those who are celebrating in Hindu, Jain and Sikh communities! Visit聽聽for a list of other upcoming significant dates, including Louis Riel Day and Rock Your Mocs week.

Sincerely,

Rita Russo,
Director of Education
