Freedom of Information

The ºÃÉ«tv District School Board follows provincial legislation to protect the privacy of an individual's personal information. Ontario's provides individuals with the right to access:

  • General or public records of information
  • Any records containing an individual's own personal information

In many cases, general records are available on our website, including policies, administrative regulations, Access to student information can often be provided directly through your child's school.

Formal Freedom of Information Request (FOI)

If an information request is large, complex, sensitive, or involves information about other people, it may require a more formal process. Formal requests must be made using the online form and accompanied by a $5 application fee.

To make a formal request for information under MFIPPA, please complete the following steps:

Requests must be made using the online FOI Request Form. Please include a detailed description of the information you are looking to obtain.

We can accept either cheque or cash, made payable directly to the ºÃÉ«tv District School Board. In addition to the application fee, you may be required to pay other fees. The rules regarding the payment and amount of fees are set out in the Act and its regulations.

Response Time

According to FOI legislation, KPRDSB has 30 days to respond to information requests. You will be notified when:

  • further information or clarification is required
  • a time extension is required due to volume of records or the number of staff to be consulted is large
  • the fee is estimated to exceed $25
  • a decision is made to either grant or deny access (along with rationale)

Associated Fees for Requested Documents

If it is anticipated that fees will be more than $25.00, you will be provided with an estimate. If the estimate is $100.00 or more, you will be required to pay a 50% deposit.

Appeals

If you are not satisfied with our response to your request, you can file an appeal to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner within 30 days of the Board's decision.
